THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE DORIAN.

& where we go from here.

Hurricane Dorian was an extremely powerful, long-lived, and destructive storm that devastated the Northwestern Bahamian Islands Abaco and Grand Bahama. Damage in the Bahamas was catastrophic due to the prolonged and intense storm conditions, including heavy rainfall, high winds and storm surge, with thousands of homes destroyed and at least 50 deaths recorded. The true death toll is unknown, but news sources in the Bahamas suggested that it may exceed 3,000.

In the wake of devastating Hurricane Dorian, people are rallying to support the people of Abaco and Grand Bahama. We urge you to help in any way possible. In the coming weeks, the emphasis will shift from evacuation and cleanup to re-building. The following groups are providing live updates on what is needed to help facilitate their humanitarian relief efforts.

As we continue to band together to provide relief to Abaco, the Bahamas can’t rebuild with international aid alone. Other Islands throughout the Bahamas remain open and untouched and the dollars spent in the Southern Islands will be crucial to rebuilding the Northern ones.

Tourism accounts for 60% of the country’s revenue and experts on the Bahamas say that the Islands need tourism now more than ever.
